Too late

While I was philosophizing, others were – living.

Question

Pragmatics are dealing with the question “how (to live)”, and philosophers – “why (bother)”?

And so there is no reason for you to think that any man has lived long because he has grey hairs or wrinkles; he has not lived long—he has existed long. For what if you should think that that man had had a long voyage who had been caught by a fierce storm as soon as he left harbour, and, swept hither and thither by a succession of winds that raged from different quarters, had been driven in a circle around the same course? Compensation

The absence of Truth cannot be compensated with formal logic. Otherwise, every logical construct could be considered truthful. When the truth is replaced with logic, what we get is fascism.

Science

There’s but one true science – philosophy. Everything else is engineering.

Philosopher

As an artist, you use only the left side of your brain. As a scientist, you use only the right side. As a philosopher, however, you don’t use either one.

Bird

“You’re a big illusion, you golden bird!”, said Meša Selimović, alluding to the temporal nature of life. If we compare life with a bird, of any kind, then I’m becoming, without particular affinity for those creatures, a bit disappointed in life.

Wally the Gator

One of the greatest contemporary philosophers, the cartoon character Wally the Gator, in one of the episodes is annoyed by the kid with a whistle, and he is chasing him till the end, when he catches the kid, takes the whistle from him, and start whistling himself. Then, pleased, with a big smile on his face says: “It seems that it all depends on which side of the whistle you are”. Timeless!
