Monkey business

M. Houellebecq, again: “Let’s put a chimpanzee in a tiny cage fronted by concrete bars. The animal would go berserk, throw itself against the walls, rip out its hair, inflict cruel bites on itself, and in 73% of cases will actually end up killing itself. Let’s now make a breach in one of the walls, which we will place right next to a bottomless precipice. Our friendly sample quadrumane will approach the edge, he’ll look down, remain at the edge for ages, return there time and again, but generally, he won’t teeter over the brink; and in all events, his nervous state will be radically assuaged.”

No time

Upon my arrival in the US, I was working for a certain company, while failing to acquire a single friend. I started worrying about that, even considering that something is wrong with my social skills. Later, I realized why is that: people here work so much that they don’t have time for their immediate families, let alone friends.

Poetry

When I was younger, I was writing poetry (like all other sensitive souls on this planet). Needless to say, I wasn’t much of a poet. But, that wasn’t the reason I stopped writing poetry: the real reason is that I’ve realized that I wasn’t going to intentionally limit the room for my thoughts, by putting them into pre-defined forms.
